IT Internship Testimonial from Brook

Information technology intern Brook from Deakin University.

“I am now in my seventh week of internship and the overall experience has been really great. I also want to extend my sincerest gratitude to the CareerDC team for their hard work in helping me match to a company that fits my career goals.

The internship environment was very inclusive and I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by a highly professional team. For discussion and communication, our team would meet once a week. Other than this, our supervisor meets me every day for mentoring and guidance. If I encounter any problem or concern, my supervisor is just an email away, he usually responds promptly to address my current concern.

The internship arrangement is quite challenging. Currently, my supervisor and I are working on projects independently. My tasks mainly include developing software, encryption, writing code and so on. Through this internship process, I gained the momentum to work on tasks independently, and has allowed me to grasp the necessary skills related to my profession.

The tasks I first came into contact with were relatively unfamiliar to me, some things were not taught and learned from school. Eventually, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and explored step by step. With the current theoretical knowledge I have, I courageously tried and gradually became familiar with it. This process was very meaningful to me, I no longer fear of committing mistakes, because in error there is always room for improvement.

For students planning an internship, I suggest that you start your internship early and don’t worry too much about whether the content of the internship is similar to what you have studied. During the internship, don’t be too anxious, just take one step at a time and enjoy the process.
