Professional Presentation Skills: How to Present Yourself Well

In early December 2024, CareerDC hosted a Professional Presentation Skills Workshop via Zoom. The session aimed to empower students and graduates with practical skills to excel in professional environments, particularly focusing on creating strong first impressions, maintaining professionalism, and adapting to workplace norms.

This workshop held particular significance for students from the American University of Beirut (AUB), who participated actively and benefited from culturally tailored insights designed to help them navigate international career opportunities.

Professional Presentation Skills Workshop Highlights

The workshop covered the following key areas:

Importance of First Impressions

At the start of the workshop we discussed the potentially lasting impact of first impressions, the importance of presenting yourself well both in appearance and attitude from the get-go, and how first impressions can shape professional relationships.

Professional Attributes

We emphasised key professional traits like punctuality, organisation, and a positive attitude and highlighted the importance of active listening and clear communication in professional success.

Practical Application

As the workshop was aimed for current students and new graduates, we talked a lot about employer meet-ups and industry events and encouraged the participants to implement the workshop tips in real-life scenarios such as internship or job interviews and workplace interactions. It cannot be stressed enough how one can improve their professional presentation through consistent practice.

The workshop focus: first impressions and key attributes including punctuality, organisation skills and positive attitude.

The beginning of the workshop introduced attendees to the focus and goals of the workshop, emphasising the value of professional appearance, body language, and positive, professional attitudes.

Interactive Learning

The participants were asked to consider “How long does it take to form a first impression?”, which sparked engagement and participation from the attendees. Later on the Q&A session allowed students to address their unique challenges and receive personalised advice.

One of the key personal professional attributes is organisation skills.
