Data Science Internship Review from Sinan

Data science intern Sinan from the UNSW.

“I’m really pleased with my internship. I enjoy the company because everyone here is youthful and full of energy. In my small company, I’ve gained valuable experience, particularly working closely with the CEO who brings extensive expertise. I especially appreciate how he has guided me not only in professional matters but also in career planning beyond the workplace. Additionally, interacting with colleagues from Southeast Asia has provided me with insights into cross-cultural communication.

My main role involves handling consulting projects. Currently, the company has undertaken a project focusing on researching small and medium-sized personal credit. I am tasked with compiling a report that includes data comparisons and presenting my own insights and ideas. My initial internship taught me that the professional environment differs greatly from academic research, providing me with valuable exposure to real-world dynamics. Prior to this experience, I had not engaged in formal work discussions, making this internship a significant learning curve for me. Throughout this journey, I gained a deeper understanding of the essential role of team communication and collaborative skills.

In an internship setting where external pressure may not be prominent, I believe it’s crucial for us to maintain self-accountability, particularly in ensuring attention to detail. Personally, I’ve encountered instances where I overlooked details. Being part of a small team means each of us carries specific responsibilities, and any mistakes can indeed hinder the progress of our colleagues. These experiences have significantly contributed to improving my professionalism.
