A Civil engineering Internship / Industrial training can be hosted by a consulting engineering or construction companies.
Consulting is where you advise on projects and look at the design, where contracting is where you turn the plans into reality and maintain the structures once they are built. Construction engineering firm help the intern to specialise as a construction engineers, municipal engineers, structural engineers, transport engineers, or water supply distribution engineers.
It is the responsibility of the civil engineer to produce safe, economical and environmentally-sound structures, and therefore they have to think about how the structure might affect its surroundings.
There are many areas in engineering such as: designing buildings, structure, maintain, planning..etc. All of these areas can be on roads, railways, airports, bridges, harbors, dams, irrigation projects, power plants, water- and sewage systems. Also environmental areas are in the civil engineer industry, such as the collection and treatment of sewage and industrial wastes, pollution control, environmental control and resource protection and management, and the assessment of the impact large scale projects have on the environment.
Civil Engineering Internships can teach the students about the following:
- Civil, Environmental and Construction
- Surveying and site set-out
- Any design related activities
- Drafting and document control
- Working with trades people on site
- Project Planning
- Estimating for projects
