When you do a six-month internship, you have plenty of time to understand the business, and dazzle your boss. Unfortunately, some internships are not so long. In fact, how to prove your value when you have only a few weeks or a few days to do so ? Showing your best qualities in such a short period of time turns out to be really difficult. Here are 5 tips to shine during your short-term internship.
Take every opportunities to interact with your colleagues. Coffee breaks or night out after work for instance are great opportunities for them to know more about you and to appreciate spending time with you. Another tip is not to put headphones when you are at work. In fact, it deters people to talk to you because it give them the impression that you don’t want to talk. As you may have understood, socialising is the best way for your colleagues to remember you as someone nice and friendly, that is to say someone they feel like working with.
Have a proactive attitude
If you don’t want your internship to turn into something boring in which you spend your whole days staring at your computer, you have to show your motivation. Ask for more tasks and do it correctly. The more you succeed in these tasks, the more they would be willing to give you important things to do. It’s a way for them to see how valuable you are.
Don’t be afraid !
Dare to give ideas and to participate in the life of the company. You may have great ideas, so if you think they can be useful, don’t keep them for yourself ! In the worst case, your manager is just going to explain you why this idea does not match with the situation, and in the best case, he will remember you as someone clever and creative.
Be ready to do more than you’re asked
As your internship is short, you don’t have much time to demonstrate all of your best qualities. Thus, you can artificially create more time. What does it mean ? Don’t hesitate to do extra hours or to stay at the office even if you’re day is supposed to be over. First it will show that you care about your job, but it will also enables you to do more things, as far as you get time !
Know your subject
Do some research to know more about the company and the market. Use every possible sources (Internet, papers, articles…) to get a specific knowledge. Every company has a unique brand identity and if you know it before getting started, it will make a really good impression on your colleagues.
